Runaway Fate won the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity under Rachael Isaacs and is one of the season's top 2-year-olds

AJAX, ONT–SEPTEMBER 30, 2024–Three stakes-winning 2-year-old Quarter Horses will square off in one of the features at Ajax Downs this Wednesday, October 2, a race that serves as a stepping stone to the $70,000 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity on Oct. 23. 

The 330-yard allowance event is race three on a seven-race card that gets underway at 12:55 p.m.

Runaway Fate, the upset winner at 8 to 1 of the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity on Sept. 11, was winning for the first time in his career that day for owner and breeder Heste Sport, Inc. of Nobleton, ON. The son of first-crop Ontario sire Peighnt Your Fate is trained by Bob Broadstock and ridden by Rachael Isaacs.

"He's a late-blooming type of horse," said Isaacs. "With every race, he was learning something and getting better."

Among the eight rivals Runaway Fate defeated in the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity was Elvis The Famous, winner of the Ontario Bred Futurity in July. Owned and bred by the red-hot stable of Carol and Jaime Robertson, Elvis the Famous had a bit of a slow start behind Runaway Fate, and he finished fifth. Josh Scott rides Elvis the Famous. The Robertsons have also entered Bonus Futurity winner Had To Be Fabulous, who will be ridden by Cassandra Jeschke.

This Wednesday's afternoon of racing begins the final month of Quarter Horse action at Ajax Downs for 2024. Racing will be held on Oct. 2, 9th, Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 14, which is pumpkin giveaway day for the kids. and Oct. 23 and Oct. 30.
