Full Field Of 10 In Sound Dash On Saturday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–OCTOBER 10, 2024–As it’s now the norm in the top fillies and mares division, a full field of distaffers will get together for the running of the $35,000 Sound Dash Handicap on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.

The 350-yard Sound Dash is the eighth race on the card, with the Robert Boniface completing the stakes late double.

Los Alamitos is nationally regarded as having the best stakes program for fillies and mares in the nation, and the Sound Dash is another fine example of its strength. The field of 10 will include 2023 AQHA champion Fearless Moon, who was fourth in the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial in her last start, with each of the nine other entrants in this race having won or placed in a stakes race.

With over $419,000 in earnings, Fearless Moon is the richest of the ten entrants. Second in the $715,000 All American Oaks and fourth in the $936,000 Los Alamitos Super Derby, the Gentry Farms-owned Kentucky-bred was also second in the Grade 1 Charger Bar Handicap. The Sound Dash offers the mare by First Moonflash a great opportunity to record the first stakes win of her career. Martin Arriaga will pilot Fearless Moon from post three for trainer Juan Aleman.

Stakes winners in this field include Clanfield Act Stables’ Frivolous, the Governor’s Cup Futurity winner in 2022 and winner of the Florentine Stakes on August 17, plus Parsons Family Limited Partnership’s Rockin With Energy, second in last year’s Ed Burke Million Futurity and winner of the Debutante on July 27. She’s the only 3-year-old filly in this field.

Other stakes winners include David Hinkins’ Budder Off Friends, the PCQHRA champion 3-year-old filly last year, and P and J Racing’s AJ Born Runnin, a two-time stakes winner this year. R Ladys Dynasty, Jess Call Me Candy, Wise Lady Dawn, Remember Her and Forever Dynasty.

The Sound Dash is named in honor of the 1993 AQHA Champion Aged Mare. Sound Dash won 19 races, seven stakes, and $581,461 in her career. She faced the great Refrigerator twice in the Champion of Champions, including running second in the 1992 running at odds of 40-1. Sound Dash’s final start was a victory in the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial for distaffers in 1995.
