AJAX DOWNS–OCTOBER 10, 2024–Ajax Downs is the place to be this Thanksgiving Monday, October 14, for Race Day For The United Way, a jam-packed afternoon of Quarter Horse racing, raffles and prizes, a pumpkin giveaway to the first 100 kids, an appearance by the headless horseman, and the 'Turkeys vs. Chickens' race, which is sure to provide laughs.

Bring a new or used clothing item and receive a $5 betting voucher. There is a blanket giveaway while quantities last.

The on-track feature is the $57,150 Ontario Sired Stakes Derby, with a competitive field of ten racing 350 yards as race seven.

The first race post time is 12:55 p.m.

Among the raffle prizes for United Way Day are Toronto Maple Leaf hockey tickets, tickets to The Lion King, a barbeque, and more.

The Ontario Sires Stakes Derby is a bettor's dream, with an evenly matched field of 3-year-old colts and fillies.

Howard Walton's Chasing Butterflies, trained by Rick Kennedy, seeks his first stakes victory in the Derby. The bay gelding came close in July when he was second by a neck in the Ontario Bred Derby. In his most recent start, the son of Dashair was a close fifth in the Norman Picov Derby to top American-bred filly Rbybybaby.

Christian Benitez has the mount on Chasing Butterflies, who will start from post five. Other horses to watch in the Derby include stakes winners General Skywalker, Snow Magically Sweet, and stakes-placed Sugar Boy Perry.
