LOS ALAMITOS, CA–OCTOBER 17, 2024–Jeryl Hartley’s Hes Chickless won the Moonist Award in 2023 thanks to his tremendous work rate and great success at high racing levels at Los Alamitos. The colt won the El Primero Del Año Derby and the A Ransom Handicap while racing in five other stakes or derby finals during his sophomore campaign.
The talented son of Hes Relentless is putting together another great resume during his 4-year-old campaign, once again exhibiting great ability and consistency on the racetrack. Hes Chickless will look for his first stakes score of the season when he leads the Azure Three Stakes, while making his ninth start of the year.
He’s already competed in four other stakes races and has posted a runner-up effort in the Kaweah Bar Handicap and a third-place finish in the Independence Day Handicap. To be ridden by Cruz Mendez, he’ll be looking for the 12th victory of his career and his second in a row after an allowance win on September 22. Sergio Morfin trains the winner of nearly $260,000.
A few of his rivals in the Azure Three include Juniors Quarter Horses’ Always A Chance, the winner of the Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap last year, and a participant in the Spencer Childers Championship Handicap on July 27. This will be only his second start of the year.
George and Ruben Villalobos’ Required First, who has placed in five stakes during his fine career, will also be in action. The field will also feature Grade 1 winner You Can Run, Up For Everything, Jessica Cruz, Nomad Too and Mfs Cheerio.
