GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 30, 2024–Two stakes are featured on Lone Star Park's 12-race Saturday program. Post time for the first race is set for 5:45 p.m. (CDT).
Saturday's 870-yard, $50,000 Let 'Er Rip Lip Chip LLC Stakes has drawn a field of nine distance specialists, including one also-eligible entry. The Grand Legend, an 8-year-old FDD Going Grand gelding owned by James C. Whitener LLC and the sport's reigning distance champion, is coming off of a third-place finish, 3 1/4 lengths behind winner and eventual Grade 1 winner Volcoms Favorite, in the September 21, $60,000 Lip Chip Albuquerque Distance Challenge Stakes (G3) in New Mexico.
The Grand Legend has won 11 of his 15 starts and has earned $272,000 in his 870-yard starts. The gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Noe Villatoro for trainer Adan Guzman.
Other contenders include Rockin J Running Horses' Rock Ya Later, a 4-year-old son of Rock Solid Jess trained by Tammy Johnson. Rock Ya Later has banked $45,234 from eight starts this year, and his season resume includes a second-place finish, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner Markus Aurelius, in the June 1, 870-yard Remington Distance Championship (G1) at Remington Park.
Saturday's 400-yard, $50,000 Yellow Rose of Texas Stakes (R) has drawn a field of eight state-bred distaffers, led by early favorite First Time For Wine.
A homebred 4-year-old daughter of champion First Moonflash trained by John Stinebaugh for owner Pete Scarmardo of Caldwell, Texas, First Time For Wine is coming off of a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Curls Joyful Wagon, in the September 28, 400-yard Cox Ranch Will Rogers Distaff Challenge Stakes at Will Rogers Downs.
First Time For Wine has earned $65,114 from six starts this season. The mare drew post 3 and will be ridden by Ali Rivera.
