HOBBS, NM–OCTOBER 30, 2024–Pavel, a multiple graded stakes winning son of the Corona Cartel stallion Czar Cartel Mv owned and trained by Jose Luis Sanchez Jr., heads a group of 65 state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses entered in Saturday’s 350-yard New Mexico Classics Futurity (RG2) trials at Zia Park.

A $6,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Pavel has earned $289,980 from six races, and his four wins include the April 6, $355,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park, and the May 18, $234,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park. The bay gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Luis Martinez in the sixth of seven trials.

Woody Rocks is a gelded son of the Dash Ta Fame stallion Woodbridge trained by Tony Sedillo for owner CHR Racing. A $25,000 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, Woody Rocks has banked $193,794 from six races, and he’s won two stakes, including the July 28, $368,000 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Albuquerque Downs.

Woody Rocks drew post 7 and will be ridden by Christian Ramos in the seventh heat.

Other prominent entries include Ezra Lee’s Two Macho For You, a homebred stakes-winning son of KJ Mucho Macho Man trained by Wes Giles. Two Macho For You will be shortening in distance off of his neck victory in the October 13, 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
