OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–FEBRUARY 12, 2025–Trainer Stacy Charette-Hill sent stakes winner Lipstick Lou to the racetrack Tuesday morning for her first workout here in preparation for the upcoming American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa season that begins Thursday, March 6.
Lipstick Lou, a 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred Quarter Horse filly by Jess Louisiana Blue, out of the Red Storm Cat mare Paint Your Lips Red, earned her first stakes victory on July 7, 2024, in the $99,375 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby in Altoona, Iowa at 12-1 odds. She won the 350-yard race by a margin of 1-1/4 lengths.
Lipstick Lou worked 220 yards on Tuesday morning, one day before winter weather rolled in to postpone training until Feb. 14. She moved over the fast track in:12.48 handily.
Lipstick Lou raced twice at Remington Park last year, winning an allowance race on May 4 at 14-1 odds by a half-length at 350 yards. That victory came after a nice layoff from March 21 when the best she could do was an eighth-place finish against allowance horses. Charette-Hill owns this filly in conjunction with Leto Land and Cattle. Lipstick Lou was bred by Stacy and her late husband, Randy Hill.
In her career, Lipstick Lou is an impressive 6-for-12 lifetime with one second and one third for earnings of $121,041. Charette-Hill, the most prominent female trainer and always a factor in conditioning horses at Remington Park, has won 1,034 races with Quarter Horses in her career. Her lifetime marks with this breed, according to Equibase statistics, are 6,651 starters, 1,034 wins, 949 seconds, 866 thirds, and earnings of $15,096,871. She has been training since 1991. Charette-Hill has had four horses in her stable that have earned more than $200,000 in their careers – A Legacy of Tales, Catchn Southern Rays, Curls Happy Wagon, and This Candys Okay.
Curls Happy Wagon was a multiple stakes winner at Remington Park, winning the Decketta Stakes twice (2019-2020).
Charette-Hill, of Lexington, Okla., finished tied for 14th in the Remington Park Quarter Horse trainers standings in 2024 with 10 wins. Dee Keener won the overall trainer standings with 37 victories (20 with Paints/Appaloosas and 17 with Quarter Horses). Charette-Hill with Quarters last meet was 79-10-9-11, $273,810.
Winter weather forced the postponement of morning training and training races for Wednesday, Feb. 12. There will be no morning activity on the Remington Park track until Friday, Feb. 14. Also, that morning, the training races scheduled for Wednesday will take place beginning at 11 a.m. All times are Central.
