SELMA, TX–FEBRUARY 18, 2025–No less than six (6) six-figure summer sale yearlings are expected to make their career debut on Wednesday when Retama Park will host its second-day training races for newly minted juveniles.
Contested over a distance of 250 yards, the races will begin at noon (central) at the Selma, Texas facility. Parking and admission are FREE. All ages are welcome. This is a non-wagering event.
Trainer Marc Jungers will saddle $350,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate Favoritetang in Race 9—the colt by leading sire Favorite Cartel races for the Favoritetang Partnership. A rider has yet to be named but the colt will race from Post 2.
Bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms LLC, Favoritetang is out of the Corona Cartel mare Cosmopolitanne, a half-sister to All American Derby(G1) winner Instygator ($1,608,801), Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Shott Gun ($695,029) and multiple stakes winner Maybellina ($167,659).
In addition, Jungers will send out $250,000 Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale graduate On Da Edge for the On Da Edge Partnership in Race 3 and Shesa Favorite, a $235,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale daughter of Favorite Cartel for owner Shesa Favorite Partnership in Race 11.
Trainer John Stinebaugh will get things underway in the opening race (1) with $315,000 Ruidoso Select graduate Dare To Fly. The royally bred son of leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 races for owner Zane Kiehne.
Jockey Ali Rivera has been tapped to ride the half-brother to Grade 3 winner Pandorum, the dam of two-time champion Hotstepper ($1,336,359), Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner Hotsempting ($682,793) and Grade 1-placed In Hott Pursuit ($358,218), etc. Laura Erickson bred the colt in Oklahoma from the Grade 3-placed Strawfly Special mare Daring Diversion.
Stinebaugh and Rivera will team again in Race 8 with Darryl Murray's Apollitical Jess colt, Jess Hotz. The $100,000 Ruidoso Select graduate is out of Kinda Spicey by Tres Seis.
Trainer Patrick Clemons named jockey Nestor Duran to ride the final six-figure summer sales graduate, Ocho Rojo, in Race 2. Florentino Leon paid $135,000 for the Favorite Cartel gelding out of Sizzling N Fast at the Ruidoso Select Sale.
