Highly Regarded $725,000 Summer Sales Graduate Hott Favorite Heads Maiden Stakes Final

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–FEBRUARY 21, 2025–Owned by a partnership, Hott Favorite, a Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches Lp-bred colt, became the most expensive horse to ever race in the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes trials on the way to also qualifying to the $97,500 Stakes final (not black type) on February 2.

Purchased as a yearling for $725,000, the Texas-bred will now look to shine again when heading the field to the $97,500 Maiden Stakes final on Sunday night.

The colt by Favorite Cartel out of Pandorum is a half-brother to AQHA champion and Grade 1 All American Derby winner Hotstepper and Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity winner Hotsempting. He’s also a half-brother to Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity finalist Hot Prodigy. Hott Favorite was picking his second victory in a row at Los Alamitos after winning the second of five Maiden trials.

Aspirations were high for Hott Favorite early last year after he won his schooling race at Ruidoso Downs before making his debut. His size also made him stand out, as he was described as already looking like a 3-year-old when he was only a yearling. His elegant looks and powerful physique led to the hefty price tag, but because of his size, his connections also needed to bring him along patiently.

Expected to excel at distances 400 and greater, Hott Favorite is eligible to run in the trials to the Ruidoso, Rainbow, All American and Los Alamitos Super Derby. The Maiden final is race nine on Sunday.
