OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–FEBRUARY 28, 2025–The 2025 racing season gets underway Thursday, March 6 at Remington Park. The Opening Night program was compiled this morning in the racing office with 10 races, featuring seven trials for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.
A total of 112 horses were entered for an average field size of 11.2 per race. Total purses for the first night of 50 this spring reached $110,000. The seven trials carry purses of $6,000 each. The richest race of the evening is the 10th, an allowance for American Quarter Horses at 330 yards, worth $30,000.
There are 64 entered in the seven trials for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity with just three of the 2-year-olds representing the Appaloosa breed. All others are Paints for the 300-yard trials. The fastest 10 by trial time will move on to the final on Saturday, March 22.
Turbulent, a Paint, who had the fastest training race of the day on Feb. 17 at Remington Park, besting even the American Quarter Horses that afternoon. She will compete in the third of the seven Oklahoma Paint & Futurity Trials, in race five on Opening Night.
The 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly by the multiple world champion Painted Turnpike, out of the SF Royal Quick Flash mare Turbulence, beat her seven foes by an eye-opening 3-3/4 lengths in a time of :13.636 on the fast track. Turbulent is owned by 918 Bloodstock of Inola, Okla. and trained by Dee Keener.
The Opening Week runs Thursday through Sunday, March 6-9. The first race is 6pm nightly except for Sunday afternoon racing at 4pm.
Trials for the 84th edition of the Oklahoma Futurity will be conducted on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8. Trials for the Oklahoma Derby will run on Sunday, March 9, in addition to the first stakes races of the season, the Grade 2 SLM Big Daddy Stakes and the Mighty Deck Three Stakes for Oklahoma-breds.
