Monty Cristo Lukewarm Favorite In Saturday's $134,750 Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 18, 2025–Monty Cristo has been installed as the 3-1 lukewarm morning-line favorite in Saturday's $134,750 Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic (not black type).

The 350-yard race for 3-year-old and up maidens at the time of nomination who qualified from the March 1st trials will be run as Race 6 on a seven-race card. First post is 1:05 p.m. (CDT). The Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic post is approximately 3:10 p.m.

Monty Cristo broke his maiden in the trials with an impressive 1-1/2 length victory in the second fastest clocking of 17.757 seconds, a 96-speed index. Trainer Braulio Hernandez is tapped jockey Federico Vargas to ride the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel for owner Carlos Hernandez Velasquez.

Winless in five starts at 2, Buck Way Ranch LLC bred Monty Cristo in Oklahoma from the Okey Dokey Dale mare This Candys Okay.  An earner of $8,418, he will start from post 6.

Babymoone (7-2), the second favorite, will be looked to score her third consecutive win. The daughter of Moonin The Eagle, racing for Salazar Stables, LLC broke her maiden on January 10, then returned for a half-length win in the March 1 trials, earning a 90 speed index.

Winless in eight starts at 2, Babymoone will be ridden by jockey Oliver Martinez. Bobby D. Cox bred the bay filly in Texas from the Foose mare Bac In Front. She has earned $22,256.
