OGDEN, UT—APRIL 25, 2025—Two stakes races are scheduled for Sunday at Weber Downs in Ogden, Utah, including the $96,716 Beehive Futurity and $36,740 Utah Derby, both featuring consolation races.
The Utah Derby Consolation will start the night off with the seventh race, offering a purse of $6,000 and the $15,246 Futurity Consolation is race nine. Both events are considered non black type races.
Race 8 is the Utah Bred Derby, featuring Dnc Dynasty, who secured the title of fastest qualifier from the trials by defeating Favorite Buddy BC by three-quarters of a length. The two will face each other again after being drawn beside one another in the finals on Sunday afternoon.
Dnc Dynasty will start from post nine, trained by Sergio Canales and ridden by Jose J. Olivo. The son of Duponte is owned by W3 Farms.
Favorite Buddy Bc is aiming to return to his winning ways after an impressive 2024 campaign, during which he earned $143,962. His race record consists of seven outings, with five victories, one second place, and one third place finish. The brown colt sired by Flay won the 2024 Wyoming Downs Futurity and Mike Lipp Memorial.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet on April 27 in the $36,740 Utah Bred Derby final going 330 yards.
The tenth and final race will be the Beehive Futurity. Jr Calender Girl recorded the fastest qualifying time after winning her trial by 1 3/4 lengths. She is a homebred filly sired by leading freshman sire Dulce Sin Tacha.
Trained by Kylie Valenzuela and ridden by Jesus Valenzuela, Jr Calender Girl aims to establish herself as a winner from post position six.
Kylie Valenzuela will also be saddling her stablemate, You Got Litt Up, who was the third-fastest qualifier. The son of #2 leading first-year sire Cyber Monday was purchased for $12,000 at the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale by owners Dennis D. Woosley and Jared Woosley. The colt will be ridden by Guillermo Suarez from post position eight.
Leading trainer Sergio Canales will be preparing the second-fastest qualifier, Fire In The Whole, who showcased impressive talent in her trial, winning by a significant margin of 1 1/2 lengths. She has drawn post position nine and will be ridden by jockey Jesus Canales.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet on April 27 for the $96,716 Beehive Futurity final going 300 yards.
