Wyoming Bred Futurity winner Sj Illusive N Shady will head the Dan Lockie Quarter Horse Derby trials on Sunday at Miles City.

MILES CITY, MT—MAY 3, 2025—Sj Illusive N Shady is making headlines as one of the twenty-seven 3-year-olds entered in the Dan Lockie Quarter Horse Derby trials on Sunday at Miles City.

This impressive Fiftyshadezofgrey gelding, trained by Jess R. Matt and owned by Jim and Stephanie Fergusen, previously won the 2024 Wyoming Bred Futurity. Sj Illusive N Shady will compete in race number five, starting from post position six, and will be ridden by Jacob Cardenas.

Bred by Gerald Kaul,he has won four of five starts and earned $62,550.

Dm Nite Hawk is a strong contender for qualification, currently the morning line favorite for race six (trial 3) with post position six. He is the son of multiple stakes sire Hawkeye, owned by Donaldo Hermosillo. Brenda Guzman conditions the gelding and will be ridden by David Jiménez.

The top ten fastest horses from the four trials will return for the finals on May 17, competing for a purse of $ 15,000 added.
