AJAX, ON—MAY 7, 2025—Fifteen horses will enter the QROOI Open Derby Trials scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. Two trials will be conducted to identify the ten fastest competitors for a distance of 300 yards.
The standout entry, Had To Be Fabulous, is the morning line favorite in race three of the final trial. Last year, she showed remarkable talent by winning two futurities, including the QROOI Bonus Futurity and the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity. In 2024, she was named the Canadian High Point Two-Year-Old Filly.
Throughout her career, she has competed six times and secured five wins, earning a total of $49,806. This homebred three-year-old filly owned by Carol and Jaime Robertson is a daughter of One Fabulous Eagle.
Bryn Robertson conditions her and will be ridden by Ismael E. Mosqueira from post position number two.
Had To Be Fabulous is out of the Hadtobenuts mare Had To Be Fandango and is a half-sister to champion Had To Be Ivory.
Had To Be Fabulous won the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity last year, defeating Peighntmeadiamond, who will also be a contender in the trials.
In the final trial, Peighntmeadiamond will be racing from post number five. This gelding is sired by Peighnt Your Fate and is looking to break his maiden, with a victory in his sights. Peighntmeadiamond is conditioned by Joe Tavares and will be ridden by Brian A. Cheyne.
The fastest 10 qualifiers will meet on May 21st for the $30,000 added 300–yard final.
