MILES CITY, MT –MAY 16, 2025–The anticipation is building as the prestigious Dan Lockie Quarter Horse Derby is set to take place on Saturday at the Miles City Racetrack. This race, boasting a purse of $42,800, promises to showcase some of the best talent fro the Northwest in Quarter Horse racing, with an impressive lineup of contenders vying for victory.
Broken Heart Ranch's Jrs Queen is the morning-line favorite at 9-2 odds. A talented filly by leading sire Flying Cowboy 123, Jrs Queen is out of Mississippi Queen by Corona Cartel, and has a notable record, having earned $34,570 in her career, including a victory at the BHS Futurity last year.
Ezekiel Barron will take the reins for trainer Robert Don Johnson, and with her status as the third fastest qualifier, Jrs Queen is poised for a strong performance.
Second in the morning-line at 3-1 odds is a promising filly named Feudalicious. Also by the renowned Flying Cowboy 123, she is out of Leadmetoyourladder by Special Leader, bred by Butch and Stephanie Webb.
Racing for owner Broken Heart Ranch, Feudalicious recently broke her maiden on May 4, impressively setting the fastest qualifying time in the trials. With Jayden R. Ironeyes in the saddle and trained by Robert Don Johnson, this filly is certainly one to watch as she aims to secure her first major win.
The Dan Lockie Derby is the highlight of the day, scheduled as Race 8, with an estimated post time of 6:25 p.m. (MDT). The event is part of a nine-race card that kicks off at 12:30 p.m., ensuring a full day of thrilling racing action for fans and participants alike.
