VINTON, LA–JUNE 19, 2025–The $50,000 HDJ Butler Stakes [RG2] is set to take place this Saturday night at Delta Downs as Race 7. This event is for accredited Louisiana-breds and features a select field of six experienced three-year-old and older Quarter Horses.
Leading the charge as the 8-5 morning line favorite is Pk Pure Rogue, a multiple graded stakes winner with a glittering résumé. With ten career victories and earnings of $283,135, the five-year-old gelding towers over the field in accomplishments and expectations. Trained by Guadalupe F. Tristan and ridden by veteran jockey Rodrigo S. Vallejo, Pk Pure Rogue will break from post position four.
Owned by Barraza Brothers and Sons Racing, LLC, the bay gelding was a $9,200 yearling purchase at the 2021 LQHBA Sale. Bred by Phatt Kat Ranch, Pk Pure Rogue is sired by Heza Fast Rogue out of Kinky Boots, by Agouti. With sharp works under his belt and a return to friendly company, he looks every bit the one to beat.
But hot on his heels is One Sweet Boss, the second choice on the morning line at 3-1 and a formidable rival from the outside post six. At seven years old, this durable campaigner boasts multiple graded stakes wins and a hefty bankroll of $203,705 in earnings.
Trained by Phillip Calais, Jr. for breeder-owners Flying K Ranch, LLC (Darel & Susan Kallenbach), the son of One Sweet Jess will be guided by Delta Downs’ second-leading rider, Juan F. Garcia, Jr.
Out of Starlight Bess, by Rakin in the Cash, One Sweet Boss enters with a reputation for strong finishes and grit under pressure—exactly what it will take to deny Pk Pure Rogue in the stretch.
Rounding out the field are four capable competitors ready to upset the party. Gbh Fiscal Toni is a consistent performer who is seeking her first stakes breakthrough. Into the Grey is known for sharp early speed and aims to stretch that quickness all the way to the wire. Sandstone is a lightly raced gelding with potential upside for trainer Manny Lopez. Finally, Apollitical Delight is a blue-collar gelding who brings heart and hustle to every race.
