VINTON, LA–JULY 9, 2025–Delta Downs will showcase the $75,000 Restricted Grade 2 Louisiana Classic Stakes on Saturday, July 12, with an approximate post time for Race 7 at 8:56 p.m. (CST).
The 440-yard test for Accredited Louisiana-bred Quarter Horses three years old and upward highlights a 10-race card loaded with nine stakes races (see related stories in the StallioneSearch Preview Section). First post time of 6:15 p.m.
Leading the field at 2-1 morning-line favoritism is Pk Pure Rogue, a seasoned 5-year-old gelding by Heza Fast Rogue out of Kinky Boots, by Agouti. Bred by Phatt Kat Ranch, Pk Pure Rogue was purchased for $9,200 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale and has earned over $293,000 in 30 career starts.
Owned by Barraza Brothers and Sons Racing LLC and trained by Guadalupe F. Tristan, Pk Pure Rogue will be piloted by champion jockey Rodrigo S. Vallejo.
The gelding comes in off a sharp runner-up effort, losing by a nose to Into The Grey in the HDJ Butler Stakes last out on June 21. Earlier this year, he captured the Miss Polly Classic (G3) and the BOCO Overnight Stakes, showing his determination with late surges and tight finishes.
At 3-1 second choice, Into The Grey looks to make it two straight after edging out Pk Pure Rogue by a nose in the HDJ Butler Stakes. The 6-year-old gray gelding is by Sir Runaway Dash and out of Sass That Chick by Chicks A Blazin.
Also bred by Phatt Kat Ranch and racing in the colors of Rogelio Marquez, Jr., Into The Grey is trained by Jeremy Derozin and will be ridden by Luis L. Vivanco, who guided him to victory in his last start.
A consistent performer at Delta Downs, Into The Grey boasts a career bankroll of more than $209,000, with six wins and nine placings from 28 starts. Notably, he won this same Louisiana Classic last year, proving his affinity for the 440-yard distance and this restricted stakes company.
With these two standouts set to renew their rivalry, the $75,000 Louisiana Classic promises a thrilling stretch run under the Delta Downs lights on Saturday evening.
