ALBUQUERQUE, NM–AUGUST 4, 2025–A star-studded cast of three-year-old Quarter Horse fillies will compete in four 440-yard trials on Wednesday, August 6, at The Downs at Albuquerque, each vying for a spot in the Grade 1, $500,000-est. All American Oaks final, scheduled for August 31.

The first post is set for 11:00 a.m. (MDT). The ten fastest qualifiers from the trials will advance to the Oaks final, which draws many of the division’s top sophomore fillies annually.

Among the headliners in the opening trial is Karmalites, the 5-2 morning-line favorite for trainer Jorge Luis Sanchez Jr. and jockey Luis Martinez. The Oklahoma-bred daughter of multiple stakes sire The Marfa Lights, out of Cartel Karma by Corona Cartel, was supplemented into the trials for $30,000 by owner Fabian Muniz Porras.

A $12,000 Heritage Place purchase bred by Paris Wixon, Karmalites has six wins and over $277,000 in earnings. She finished a strong third in the Grade 3 West Texas Derby earlier this year and returned from a troubled trip in her last start at Ruidoso with a steady fourth in the Rainbow Oaks trial. The consistent filly won the John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge(G3) and the Four Corners Futurity last season.

She’ll be challenged by Fancee Nancee (4-1), a $95,000 Ruidoso Select graduate by champion Kiss My Hocks out of Mr Perrys Wine, representing trainer S. Trey Wood and owner Garlyn O. Shelton.

The filly broke her maiden stylishly at Remington Park in April before encountering trouble in allowance company at Ruidoso.

Also in the field is Amber Alerrt, trained and co-owned by Dean R. Frey and Harvey Case. Bryan Candanosa will ride her. The homebred daughter of Walk Thru Fire out of Shez Jess Toxic scored a determined wire-to-wire win in her last start at Ruidoso and is installed at 7-2 on the morning line. She is a half-sister to two-time world champion Danjer.

The second trial features Curl Happy Wagon, a daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel out of Curls Happy Wagon. She arrives off a dominant 104-speed index performance in her Rainbow Oaks trial victory, posting the fastest qualifying time for the uncontested final.

Owned by Jackpot Farm and trained by Ricardo Armendariz Jr., she was a $290,000 Ruidoso Select sale graduate bred by Herd Ranch/Michael Herd. Jockey Jesse Levario retains the mount.

Curl Happy Wagon’s main opposition includes Promynade, a well-bred daughter of Freighttrain B owned by Buckin Babes and trained by Marc Jungers. She has hit the board in all three career starts, including a placing in her All American Futurity trial at Albuquerque.

Apolitical Chilitas, an Omar Paredes-bred filly, is back for trainer Luis Rojero and comes off a runner-up effort behind Curl Happy Wagon in her last out, where she was the second-fastest Rainbow Oaks qualifier. Owned by Licon Farm and Ranch LLC, the Apollitical Jess filly, out of Mary Me Anna, has been competitive at the graded stakes level. She was a trial winner in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Oaks, finishing fourth in the final.

Jessesflyincowgirl is the one to beat in the third heat after reeling off three straight wins in 2025. Trained by Marc Jungers and ridden by Christian Ramos, the Flying Cowboy 123 filly out of Jesses Dashair was bred in Oklahoma by Celia Kinsey and Sandra Wood.

She qualified for the Rainbow Oaks(G1) and previously captured the Derby Challenge at Sam Houston. Jose Luis Conzalez owns the $50,762 earner.

Queen of Heart, by Favorite Cartel and out of Apollitical Heart, will look to improve off a string of in-the-money finishes for trainer Ricardo Armendariz Jr. and jockey Jesse Levario.

Owned by Franky Busani, the $87,000 Heritage Place purchase has faced strong company and closed well in her last out.

Ohana Spirit, also a Gentry Farms-bred runner, is a seasoned stakes filly who earned over $195,000 for trainer John Stinebaugh. By Tempting Dash out of Heartbeat, she returns after finishing third behind Rainbow of Diamonds and Hott Temptation in a tough Rainbow Oaks trial at Ruidoso. She was fifth in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity last year.

In the final trial, Elizabeth Alexandria appears poised for another big effort following her tenacious win over Razor Sharp and Streakin Sis in their June 29 Rainbow Oaks trial.

Owned by Jackpot Farm and trained by Ricardo Armendariz Jr., the Kvn Corona filly was a $30,000 Ruidoso Select buy and will be ridden by Jesse Levario.

Razor Sharp, trained by Eric Valenzuela for Ronald Sugamosto, has hit the board in eight of ten career starts and finished a strong second in that same trial. Bred in Missouri, the Tempting Dash filly posted a 94-speed index when a narrow runner-up to Elizabeth Alxeandra in her Rainbow Oaks trial.

The All American Oaks trials promise a fast-paced and competitive day of racing, with top-level talent from across the country converging in Albuquerque. Only the ten fastest times from Wednesday’s four trials will move on to the lucrative final at month’s end, where championship honors and a half-million-dollar purse await.
