AJAX, ONT–AUGUST 5, 2025–A field of nine 3-year-old Quarter Horse fillies will go to post for the $51,030 Princess Derby at Ajax Downs on Wednesday, August 6, but all eyes will be on Had To Be Fabulous as she goes for her seventh straight victory.
The Ontario-bred bay comes off an easy win in the Ontario Bred Futurity, and in May, she won the QROOI Derby. The Princess Derby is contested at 350 yards.
First race post time at Ajax Downs this Wednesday is 1:45 p.m.(EDT) and the Princess Derby is race 7.
Owned and bred by Carol and Jaime Robertson and trained by Bryn Roberston, Had To Be Fabulous has only lost once in her 10-race career and is on her way to following in the hoofprints of her famous champion half-brother Had To Be Ivory.
Ismael Mosqueira rides Had To Be Fabulous, and they start from post position 4.
There are plenty of good fillies in the Princess Derby field who will look to post an upset. Owner John Wilson of New Liskeard, ON has two good chances with Flyin Lady and Sassies Best, both trained by Scott Reid.
Flyin Lady broke her maiden in her most recent start in impressive fashion, and Sassies Best was second to Had To Be Fabulous in the QROOI Derby. Cassandra Jeschke rides Flyin Lady (post 2), and Christian Benitez will be on Sassies Best (post 6).
Milena Kwiecien's Kissin Ella was third in the QROOI Derby and has since raced well against tough older males such as Maryland Magic. JB Botello rides from post 8.

Had To Be Ivory is also in action this Wednesday as he takes on four rivals in the Gridiron Gallop at 110 yards, race 5. The most successful Ontario-bred Quarter Horse in history comes off his 31st career win when he took the Ontario Bred Maturity on July 16.
