AJAX, ONT–AUGUST 22, 2025–Ajax Downs' popular Family Fun Day is back this Sunday, August 24, for kids and families, plus an exciting card of Quarter Horse racing.  The events begin at 10 a.m. with the 'Try the Track' for the kids, and throughout the day, there will be games, prizes, treats, Zoo To You, Dan the Music Man, and more.  All proceeds go to the Ajax Pickering Hospital (aphfoundation.ca).

The first 1,000 kids receive a goodie bag with a nominal donation. Family Fun Day is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Quarter Horse racing has a first race post time of 12:55 (EDT) and the seven-race card includes two Trials, at 400 yards, for the important Norman Picov Derby for 3-year-olds.

The first Trial is race 3, and Nadir, who had a sensational maiden win in June when he posted a 99 speed index, will be one of the favorites for owner Jennifer Zurowski and trainer Joe Tavares. Nadir returned from that sizzling victory and had traffic trouble when third in a subsequent race against the good Game Favorite, who competes in the second Derby Trial, race 4.

Nadir has post position 5 in the seven-horse field.

Game Favorite, owned and trained by Ruth Barbour of Erin, ON, has won three of his last four races and will have his first meeting with the best 3-year-old on the grounds, Had To Be Fabulous, the Ontario-bred filly who has won seven straight races, three stakes this year, and 10 of her 11 career races.

Game Favorite and jockey Tony Phillips drew post 1, while Had to Be Fabulous and Ismael Mosqueira will start from post six in the eight-horse field.
