AJAX, ONT–SEPTEMBER 29, 2025–This Wednesday, October 1, begins the final month of the Quarter Horse season at Ajax Downs for 2025, and there is plenty of exciting racing still to come. 

With four racing dates remaining, the jockey, trainer and owner leaderboards are hotly contested. Ismael Mosqueira, seeking his first riding championship, has a 33-26 lead over 2023 and 2024 champion Brian Bell heading into Wednesday's seven-race card. First race post time is 12:55 p.m.

Trainer Jason Pascoe, a six-time leading trainer, has a nine-win edge on James Bogar, 29-20, while Bogar is just three wins shy of leading owners Carol and Jaime Robertson, who are in front 18 to 15. Milena Kwiecien is third with 14 wins.

One of the season's top horses, Maryland Magic, is in action this Wednesday for Kwiecien and Pascoe. The 11-year-old stallion has six wins this year, tied for second in North America. Only Ajax Downs' superstar filly Had to Be Fabulous, has more wins; she is the only Quarter Horse in North America with seven victories.

Maryland Magic drew post five in a field of seven for a 220-yard speed index dash. JB Botello returns to ride the 25-time career winner. The consistently good filly Ivy League Sugarbaby, a 3-time winner this year for owner and trainer Joe Tavares, is Maryland Magic's main rival with Bell on board.
