SUNLAND PARK, NM–MARCH 9, 2026–
On Saturday, March 14th, one hundred and twenty-one New Mexico-bred juveniles will compete throughout thirteen trial heats, looking to earn a qualifying time as the ten fastest two-year-olds for the Grade 2 $150,000 added New Mexican Spring Futurity. The second ten fastest times will return to compete in the $50,000 guaranteed New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes.

The juveniles will dash 300 yards beginning at approximately 11:00 AM, as many of New Mexico’s best-bred prospects launch their two-year-old campaigns and attempt to secure a spot in the rich April finals.

The first trial appears to be one of the toughest heats of the day and features Rr Maka Miracle at 7-2 morning-line odds. The two-year-old filly recorded the second-fastest workout on February 21st, breezing 220 yards in :11.21, placing her among the fastest workers in the entire group of entrants. Her sharp morning move signals the kind of early speed often required to qualify in competitive futurity trials.

Rr Maka Miracle is sired by Big Daddy Cartel and out of Vitali by Ivory James. Bred in New Mexico by Roybal Racing, LLC., she was purchased for $19,000 by MRB Racing, LLC. at the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale. Trainer Manuel Rodolfo Rodriguez will saddle the promising filly from post five with Raul Ortega getting the riding call.

Another standout from the opening trial is Sheza Big Daddy Too, who posted a sharp :11.62 workout against a large work tab. The Big Daddy Cartel filly has already demonstrated the kind of early acceleration that often translates well to the 300-yard sprint distance.

The Meridyth family teams up behind Sheza Big Daddy Too, as Sherree Odessa Meridyth both bred and owns the filly out of Jazzsnspots by Double Feature Jess. Trainer David Meridyth sends her to the gate from post four with Jose L. Enriquez in the irons.

Restart enters the trials with the distinction of being the highest-priced purchase among the entrants, bringing $135,000 at the prestigious Ruidoso Select Sale. He races for Tungsten Racing Partnership, Fierro EJ Racing Stables, LLC, and Raul Chavez. Although his workout times have not been among the fastest posted in preparation for the trials, juveniles with this level of investment and pedigree are often primed for strong performances when the gates open.

Restart is sired by Eye Am King and out of Start Somethin Bad by Pappasito. Bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms, the gelding will be conditioned by Eric Valenzuela and breaks from post six in the second trial with Jose E. Ortiz set to ride.

Vado Cat also turned heads in morning preparations after clocking a solid :11.62 workout, matching some of the quicker works recorded among the entrants. With a productive barn behind him and a sharp morning effort, the colt appears to be one of the most intriguing runners outside of the opening trial.

The colt is by A Passion for Flashn and out of La Pantera by Chicks Regard. Bred in New Mexico by R. or D. Driggers and Ben Ivey, Vado Cat races for Javier Chavez and Bobby Raz Lee. Trainer James J. Gonzales III will saddle the colt from post six in the third trial with Joseph Belloc Jr. aboard as they look to secure one of the coveted qualifying spots.

With talented juveniles, strong pedigrees, and six-figure purchases scattered throughout thirteen trial heats, the New Mexican Spring Futurity trials promise to deliver an exciting start to the season as New Mexico’s newest generation of runners attempts to prove who is the fastest among them.

The races at Sunland Park can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
