PHOENIX, AZ–April 4, 2026—The Wednesday afternoon card at Turf Paradise will showcase the next generation of Arizona-bred talent as thirty juveniles line up across three trial heats for the AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity Trials. Each race will be contested at 300 yards, with the ten fastest qualifiers earning their place in the May 2 final for the estimated $70,000 AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity. The first post is scheduled for approximately 1:15 PM, and every stride will be crucial to securing a return trip.
Czech Berry Delight headlines the opening heat as the 3-1 morning line favorite, bringing valuable experience into her second career start. In her debut on March 21, the filly showed determination after being bumped at the break, regathering her stride to finish a respectable fourth. That effort provides a strong foundation as she looks to step forward in the trials.
Bred and owned by Salvador Pimientas, the Arizona-bred filly is sired by Pyc Paint Your Wagon and out of Blackberry Czech by Corona Czech. Trainer Rigoberto Guillen will send her out from post three with Joseph Belloc, Jr. aboard.
The second trial features an intriguing rematch between dead-heat winners Baby Sweet Thing and Gunz an Roses, who could not be separated at the wire in their March 12 maiden victory. Baby Sweet Thing, drawn on the rail and listed at 4-1 on the morning line, is by Pyc Paint Your Wagon and out of One Spicy Eagle by One Famous Eagle.
Bred and owned by J Lazy Six Racing, she is conditioned by David John Williams with Kevin Carbajal returning in the saddle. Breaking from post five, Gunz an Roses is listed at 5-1 and brings equal determination into the matchup. The colt, by Fdd Dynasty and out of Heart an Soul by Good Reason Sa, was bred in Arizona by his owners Ralph and Carolyn Fales. Trainer Matthew Fales will saddle him with Oscar Andrade, Jr. aboard as the two look to separate themselves and secure qualification.
In the third and final heat, Rocsan enters as the 3-1 morning line favorite following a solid runner-up finish in her maiden start. The filly showed promise in that effort and appears poised to build on it as she faces a competitive field.
Owned and trained by Alex J. Torres-Casas, Rocsan was purchased for $8,000 at the Ruidoso, New Mexico Bred Sale. She is sired by Elmer and out of Rime Lucky Girl by Tf Featured Effort, bred in New Mexico by Mike and Yealonda Logan. Jockey Blake Nunnally will guide her from post four as she aims to secure one of the top qualifying times.
With thirty juveniles set to sprint 300 yards, the AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity Trials offer a compelling preview of rising talent in the region. As the clock determines their fate, only the ten fastest will move on, setting the stage for a competitive and lucrative final on May 2.
The races at Turf Paradise can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
