OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–April 6, 2026—The Thursday evening card at Remington Park will feature an exciting eleven-race program, highlighted by a historic moment in Paint and Appaloosa racing—the inaugural running of the Remington Park Appaloosa Futurity trials. Thirteen Appaloosa juveniles will compete in two trial heats at 250 yards, taking place in races three and four, each aiming to post one of the ten fastest qualifying times to advance to the $20,000-added final on April 24.
The night’s action continues to intensify as thirty-four Paint juveniles compete in four trial heats for the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity. Open to foals of the 2024 season sired by the Paint Stallion Breeders Association’s 2023 roster, these trials will be held in races six through nine, starting approximately at 8:15 PM, each covering 330 yards.
In the opening Paint trial in race six, Paddy Powers enters as the 6-5 morning line favorite. The gelding has already demonstrated competitiveness early in his career, finishing third in his debut to qualify for the Grade 1 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Futurity, where he returned with a strong second-place effort, finishing just one length behind standout Big Rotney.
Sired by Phq Apollitical Jess and out of Power Fade by Painted Turnpike, Paddy Powers was bred in California by J. Garvan Kelly and J. Lloyd Yother and races for Planefun, LLC. Trainer Dee Keener conditions the gelding, who will break from the rail under jockey Mario Delgado as part of a deep and competitive field.
The final race of the evening in race nine features one of the sport’s emerging stars, Big Rotney, who is the even-money 1-1 morning line favorite. Undefeated in two starts, the gelding has quickly gained attention after winning the Grade 1 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Futurity. With earnings already reaching $79,430, Big Rotney is gaining momentum as he heads into the trials.
Sired by Painted Turnpike and out of Crm Country Girl by Crm Livewire, he was bred in Oklahoma by his trainer, Matt Whitekiller, and is raced by Apple R Racing. The popular duo of Cody R. Smith and Big Rotney reunites as he returns to the saddle from post two.
With thirty-four Paint juveniles set to compete under the lights, the stakes are high as each contender aims to stop the clock quickly enough to secure a spot among the top ten qualifiers advancing to the Grade 1 $50,000 added PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity final on April 24. Complementing the evening’s excitement, the historic Appaloosa trials mark an important step for the breed at Remington Park, adding further prestige to an already exciting night of racing.
