MEXICO CITY, MEX–April 17, 2026—The Sunday evening program at Hipódromo de las Américas features a ten-race card, highlighted by the $11,015 Gabriel Cue Sacre Classic to open the night. The program culminates in four trial heats for the $72,000 Garañones Derby, where 37 sophomores will compete for a place among the 10 fastest qualifiers.

The fourth race will begin the Garañones Derby Trials, a 350-yard set, with a scheduled post time of approximately 16:00. Each heat is important, as only the ten fastest times will advance to the final.

Mi Krash Favorito enters the opening trial as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. The colt has won three of eleven starts and earned more than $45,000. His top performance came in the Alberto Bailleres Futurity, and he was also a finalist in both the Garañones Futurity and the México Breeders Futurity during the 2025 season. He qualified to the México Derby but encountered trouble in the final.

The colt is sired by Krash Cartel and out of Estrella De Noche by Favorite Cartel. He was bred by Abelardo Gallegos. Trainer Luis Enrique Cruz Solis will saddle him from post three with Nestor Duran aboard.

In the second trial, race five, Dk Misty Cartel is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. The filly has three wins from eight starts and earnings exceeding $144,000. She was named the 2025 Mexico Champion Two-Year-Old Filly after strong performances that included runner-up finishes in the RG3 México Futurity, the México Breeders Futurity, and the RG2 Subasta Selecta Futurity. She races for Cuadra San Martin.

Sired by Danny Cartel and out of Mingle Tingle by First Moonflash, she was bred by Cuadra La Presita. Trainer Luis Enrique Cruz Solis will send her out from post five with Nestor Duran again in the saddle.

The final trial heat in race seven features El Ilusionista SR as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. The gelding has eight wins from ten starts and earnings of $110,800. He enters in strong form and looks to extend his winning streak to seven consecutive victories.

Bred by Rancho Santa Rosa Chiapas, he is owned by Cuadra San Martin and trained by Luis Enrique Cruz Solis. He is sired by Swingin Good Reason and out of the Valiant Hero mare Muscles Diablo. Trainer Luis Enrique Cruz Solis will send him out from post seven with Nestor Duran again in the saddle.

The evening begins with the Gabriel Cue Sacre Classic and builds into the Garañones Derby Trials, where thirty-seven three-year-olds will compete across four heats. The ten fastest qualifiers will return for the final on May 3, making every stride critical on Sunday night.
