FARMINGTON, NM–April 23, 2026—A full day of juvenile racing takes center stage Friday at Sunray Park and Casino, as trials are split into two competitive sets featuring both the $75,000-added Four Corners Futurity and the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity.
The opening six races on the card will determine the finalists for the Four Corners Futurity, with two-year-olds sprinting 350 yards in pursuit of the ten fastest qualifying times. These early trials are defined by a mix of first-time starters and lightly raced juveniles, creating wide-open fields where natural speed and a clean break from the gate will be decisive. The first two heats in particular offer opportunities for emerging talent, while later races in the set begin to feature runners with more established form capable of posting competitive times.
Trainer Tony Sedillo will be a prominent presence throughout the early trials, highlighted by Flying Cowboys Candy in race five. The colt, still a maiden, has already proven his ability against tougher company, finishing second in the $100,000 West Texas Juvenile Stakes after qualifying.
Owned by CHR Racing and purchased for $39,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the son of Flying Cowboy 123 has earned $18,890 and will break from post eight with Luis Martinez aboard.
The second set of trials, carded as races eight through thirteen, shifts focus to the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity, where a competitive group of fifty-five state-bred juveniles will again sprint 350 yards for a spot among the ten fastest qualifiers returning for the May 10 final, offering a purse estimated to exceed $176,000.
Trainer Tony Sedillo remains a key figure, entering five runners and represented in all but one heat. Dahlia’s Destiny headlines the opening trial of this set as the 7-2 second choice, returning off a stake’s appearance in the New Mexico Spring Fling at Sunland Park after previously qualifying.
The filly, by Big Daddy Cartel out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Dahlia, was bred in New Mexico by La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC, and races for CHR Racing, who purchased her for $16,000 at the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale. She draws post seven under Oscar Andrade, Jr., and faces Splitting Aces, a son of Bogart trained by Armando Alamos, who exits a futurity trial effort and will break from the outside with Jacob Enriquez aboard.
Sedillo will also send out Cartels Answer in the final trial of the night, a steadily improving colt who draws the rail under Luis Martinez after progressing through his first two starts. Among his main challengers is Double Down Vike from the barn of Elliot Bachicha, who turned in an impressive runner-up finish in his debut at Sunland Park.
Eric Valenzuela brings one of the most accomplished runners into this set with Big Ted, the 3-1 morning-line favorite in race nine. The son of TF Im That Guy won on debut and later finished third in the New Mexico Spring Futurity, earning nearly $50,000 in just two starts for Tungsten Racing Partnership.
Wes Giles is also well represented across the trials, with Thats Amoree standing out off a strong runner-up debut and listed as the 5-2 favorite in his respective heat.
The New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity trials follow seven earlier heats for the Four Corners Futurity, bringing together more than 60 additional juveniles from across the country and creating a deep and competitive program from start to finish. First post is set for 12:15 p.m., with both sets of trials expected to produce standout efforts as the region’s top two-year-olds look to secure their place in their respective finals.
The races at Sunray Park can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
