VINTON, LA–April 23, 2026—A full and talented group of sixty 2-year-old Quarter Horses is set to take center stage Saturday night at Delta Downs, where six trial heats will determine the ten fastest qualifiers for the $50,000 added Old South Futurity Final. Contested at 330 yards, the trials present a wide-open test for a largely inexperienced group, with many entrants making their career debuts and looking to capitalize on a clean break to secure a coveted spot in the May 16 final.
Despite the influx of first-time starters, proven talent rises to the surface in race four, where Mucho Man Lady looms as the horse to beat. Installed as the 6-5 morning-line favorite, the Texas-bred filly brings the strongest resume into the trials. She has already tested elite company, qualifying for the Grade 2 $313,000 Louisiana Downs Futurity and finishing a determined third in the final, beaten less than a length. In the trials leading up to that effort, she also delivered a runner-up performance behind the eventual winner, stamping herself as one of the most accomplished juveniles in the field. Though still a maiden, her $32,301 in earnings and proven ability against top-level competition make her a major threat to post one of the fastest times of the night.
Owned and bred by Ruse Ranch, LLC, Mucho Man Lady is a daughter of Kj Mucho Macho Man, out of the Cosmograph mare Cosmo Traffic. Trainer Jose A. Garcia will send her out from post seven, with Manuel Gutierrez named to ride. This combination further boosts her chances of delivering a standout performance.
Another strong contender emerges in race five with Cowgirls 123, the 9-5 morning-line favorite who also exits the Louisiana Downs Futurity series. The Louisiana-bred filly endured a troubled start in the final but still finished fourth, showing determination despite a fractious gate experience. Prior to that, she proved her ability by qualifying for the rich final, indicating she belongs among the top prospects in this group. With a smoother trip, Cowgirls 123 has every right to take a major step forward and contend for a top qualifying time.
Bred by Ponderosa Ranch Of P C, Inc., Cowgirls 123 is sired by Flying Cowboy 123 and out of the Fast Prize Dash mare Dashformoomoo. She races for Jamco Dreams, LLC, with trainer Esau H. Hernandez preparing her for the assignment. Adrian X. Morales will be aboard as she breaks from post four, aiming for a clean, efficient run that could propel her into the final.
With a mix of lightly raced contenders and unraced juveniles, the Old South Futurity trials set the stage for emerging talent to make a statement. The blend of seasoned runners like Mucho Man Lady and Cowgirls 123 with a wave of unknown potential creates an unpredictable and exciting night of racing, where any sharp-breaking youngster could rise to the occasion and secure a place in the final.
The first race on the nine-race program is scheduled for approximately 6:15 p.m., with every stride carrying weight as the next group of promising juveniles looks to secure a spot in the Old South Futurity Final.
The races at Delta Downs can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
