MEXICO CITY, MEX–May 1, 2026—The spotlight turns to Hipódromo de las Américas this Sunday, as a nine-race program featuring six stakes races promises an electric afternoon of Quarter Horse racing. With a strong mix of emerging juveniles and proven three-year-olds, the card builds toward a powerful finale highlighted by the first leg of the Mexican Triple Crown Series, delivering a day where every race carries weight and momentum.
The featured ninth race, scheduled for approximately 18:30, will showcase the RG3 $207,000 Futurity Mexico, featuring the ten fastest qualifiers from the April 11th and 12th trial heats. Each contender earned their spot with precision over 250 yards, with the top five times from each day advancing to what shapes up as a defining early test for this crop of two-year-olds.
Leading the field is 5-2 morning line favorite Dk Chispada Two, a filly who turned heads with a dominant trial performance from the rail, displaying sharp early speed and drawing clear by two and a half lengths. Her effort stood above both days of trials, stamping her as the one to beat.
Bred by Cuadra La Presita, she is by Bullish One and out of Chispita Two, and will break from post two under Alejandro Gomez Diaz for trainer Juan Jose Razo and owners Cuadra Guillen.
Close behind in the wagering is Dk Mirnalda at 3-1, a filly who matched that brilliance with a strong finishing kick in her trial, winning by one and three-quarters lengths while posting the second-fastest qualifying time across both days.
Also bred by Cuadra La Presita, she is a daughter of Danny Cartel out of Wl Shez To Fantastic and represents powerhouse connections, including Cuadra San Martin and trainer Luis Enrique Cruz Solis. With jockey Nestor Duran aboard from post three, she carries added intrigue as part of the same team that campaigned last season’s Mexican Triple Crown winner, Rey De Manny. With a field full of lightly raced but highly talented juveniles, the Futurity Mexico sets the stage for a thrilling and potentially program-defining performance.
The excitement builds in the eighth race with the $72,000 estimated Garañones Derby final, where ten of the fastest three-year-olds from the April 19th trials return to battle over 350 yards.
El Ilusionista Sr headlines the field as the 5-2 morning line favorite after a narrow runner-up finish in his trial, missing the fastest qualifying time by just a head. The gelding brings a strong résumé, including a six-race win streak and a victory in the Mexico Derby earlier this year. With eight wins from eleven starts and earnings surpassing $115,000, he stands as an impressive contender.
Bred by Rancho Santa Rosa Chiapas, the son of Swingin Good Reason races for Cuadra San Martin under the direction of champion trainer Luis Enrique Cruz Solis, with Nestor Duran set to ride from post six. With a deep and competitive group of sophomores, the Garañones Derby final promises a dramatic stretch run where a blanket finish is well within reach.
Earlier on the card, the seventh race will feature the $16,500 Mexico Futurity Consolation, offering another competitive showdown among the second-fastest qualifiers from the trials.
Red Stolen Show leads the group as the 5-2 morning line favorite after a strong second-place finish behind Dk Mirnalda in her trial. The filly, who broke her maiden earlier this year, continues to improve and will look to capitalize on her consistency.
Owned by Rancho San Pedro PZH, she is by Red Storm Cat out of Stolen Show and will break from post six with Jesus Loredo aboard for trainer Juan Jose Razo. With eight juveniles lining up over 250 yards, the Consolation provides an early spark to an already loaded stakes program.
The undercard adds further depth and prestige, featuring the RG3 Futurity Mexico Special Weight races I, II, and III, giving additional opportunities for rising talent to make their mark. From start to finish, the program delivers a seamless progression of talent, building anticipation with each race leading into the stakes-laden finale.
With the first post scheduled for 14:30, Sunday’s card at Hipódromo de las Américas offers a compelling blend of speed, youth, and championship potential. From the early undercard races to the Triple Crown spotlight in the Futurity Mexico, the day is set to deliver high-energy performances and unforgettable finishes that will resonate well beyond the final race.
