OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–May 8, 2026The Saturday night spotlight at Remington Park shines brightly on the 43rd running of the Grade 2 $335,800 Heritage Place Derby Trials, as sixty-three talented sophomores prepare to battle throughout seven trial heats. The excitement will continue deep into the evening as the Paint and Appaloosa stars take center stage in the final race of the night, the Grade 1 $20,000 Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes.

A field of ten accomplished three-year-olds and older will sprint 400 yards in the feature finale, scheduled to load into the gate at approximately 10:57 PM, closing out what promises to be one of the most exciting cards of the Remington Park season.

Trainer Matt Whitekiller comes into the stakes holding a powerful hand with three entrants, including #1 Over the Shock, #7 Wire Tap, and #10 Livewires Turnpike. The barn’s top hope appears to be Wire Tap, installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite. The five-year-old gelding has faced a challenging 2026 campaign, but the return to the 400-yard distance could prove to be the perfect setup for the accomplished runner, who has shown his best form at longer sprint distances.

Wire Tap enters with an impressive résumé featuring eight graded stakes victories and career earnings totaling $107,197. The Oklahoma homebred races for breeders and owners Dan and Kaye Jones and is sired by Crm Livewire out of the Second Painted Sign mare Lindys Sign. Whitekiller gives the call to Cody R. Smith as the veteran gelding breaks from post seven.

Stablemate Livewires Turnpike also brings major credentials into the race and is listed as the 4-1 second choice on the morning line. Owned by Bryan L. Hawk, the talented runner draws the far outside post ten with leading rider Francisco Calderon aboard.

Trainer Dee Keener sends out a lone contender in Turbulent, who enters from post six at 5-1 odds. Roman Cruz has the assignment aboard the talented runner as the Keener barn looks to add another major stake victory to its standout meet.

One of the most intriguing contenders in the field is the hard-knocking filly Cowgirl Chaos, tabbed at 6-1 on the morning line. The four-year-old earned her reputation honestly in her latest start, surging to victory in the Grade 2 $25,000 Paul Harber Stakes by a nose in a thrilling three-way photo finish.

The daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 out of the Freighttrain B mare Jess Cuz has now compiled four wins, two seconds, and two third-place finishes while banking $71,412 in earnings. Bred in Oklahoma by Jeff Adams, Cowgirl Chaos races for trainer Kasey Willis, who will saddle the filly with Gonzalo Gutierrez named to ride.

With accomplished champions, graded stakes winners, and proven distance specialists all converging for the Grade 1 Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes, Saturday night’s finale promises a thrilling finish under the lights at Remington Park as the talented Paints and Appaloosas deliver one final showdown at 400 yards.
