OGDEN, UT–MAY 29, 2026–The stage is set for one of the most exciting afternoons at the Weber Downs meet, as a talented lineup of juveniles, sophomores, and seasoned runners prepares to battle for stakes glory on Saturday’s ten-race program. With three finals on tap—the $43,163 Maiden Frolic Stakes, the $24,038 Golden Spike Derby Final, and the featured $86,048 Beehive Futurity Final—fans and bettors can look forward to a thrilling day of Quarter Horse racing culminating with some of the track’s brightest young stars.

The spotlight shines brightest on the $86,048 Beehive Futurity Final, where the ten fastest qualifiers from the May 8 trials return for a shot at futurity glory. Scheduled as the afternoon's tenth and final race at approximately 4:30 p.m., the 300-yard championship will feature a field of promising two-year-olds aiming to take the next step in their young careers.

Leading the field is Mysterious Hero, who stamped himself as the horse to beat with a dominant win in the third trial heat, earning the fastest qualifying time. The gelding was particularly impressive in his career debut, drawing off in convincing fashion and showing the kind of natural speed that makes him a dangerous contender in the final.

Owned by Luis A. Gonzalez, Mysterious Hero was purchased for $10,000 at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The son of Tarzanito out of the Valiant Hero mare Mysterious Night was bred in Texas by J/R Robicheaux and Spanish Moss QH. Trainer Abelardo Gonzalez will send the top qualifier from post seven, with Cesar T. Moreno returning to the saddle.

Before the futurity takes center stage, the afternoon’s stakes action shifts to the eighth race, the $24,038 Golden Spike Derby Final. Set for approximately 3:30 p.m., the 350-yard contest brings together a competitive field of three-year-olds who earned their spots in the May 9 trial heats.

Among the leading contenders is Flashing Lights, who closed strongly to win the second trial and post a solid 97 speed index. The filly has developed into a dependable performer throughout her career, compiling two wins and three third-place finishes in eight starts while earning $24,370.

Bred in Louisiana by Paris Wixon, Flashing Lights is a daughter of Marfa Lights, out of the Teller Cartel mare Cara Cara. The filly is owned and trained by Giovanni Ortiz and will break from post six with Minor Arana aboard as she seeks the biggest victory of her career.

The stakes festivities begin in the seventh race with the $43,163 Maiden Frolic Stakes at approximately 3:00 p.m. The 330-yard event features ten qualifiers returning from the May 9 trials, all seeking a breakthrough victory on one of the meet's biggest stages.

Special Buddy Bc enters as the top qualifier after a sharp gate-to-wire victory in the opening trial, where he quickly seized command and drew away to win by three-quarters of a length. While the gelding has shown consistency throughout his career, with three second-place and three third-place finishes, Saturday presents an opportunity to add another victory to his résumé.

Owned and bred in Utah by Ben L. McKinney, Special Buddy Bc is a son of Flay, out of the Tac L Bac mare Whata Doll Bc. Trained by Wes Kellett, he will start from post seven with jockey Gerardo Vera.

Adding even more depth to the card are the Beehive Futurity Consolation and the Beto’s 89 & Under, creating a full afternoon of competitive racing from start to finish.

With promising juveniles chasing futurity honors, talented sophomores battling for derby glory, and hard-knocking runners aiming to secure stakes victories, Weber Downs is poised to deliver an afternoon packed with speed, excitement, and dramatic finishes. As the action builds toward the Beehive Futurity Final, fans can expect a memorable showcase of Quarter Horse racing at its finest.
