AJAX, ON–JUNE 3, 2026–The Wednesday afternoon card at Ajax Downs will feature seven races beginning at 3:30 p.m., with attention focused on the Unclassified Never Better Than 79 Speed Index Trials. A total of thirteen runners will compete in two trial heats, aiming to secure one of ten coveted spots in the June 21 final.

Open to three-year-olds and older who had never recorded a speed index higher than 79 at the time of nominations, the trials offer a competitive opportunity for developing runners and seasoned campaigners alike. The heats will be contested in races two and three, with entrants sprinting 330 yards down the Ajax Downs straightaway.

Among the leading contenders is Hesmagicallydelicious, the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the second trial heat, scheduled as race three. The four-year-old gelding enters in strong form after earning his fourth career victory on May 13, posting an 81-speed index. In twelve lifetime starts, he has earned $30,186, making him the richest competitor entered in the trials.

The son of Maryland Magic is out of the Bodacious Jess mare Dinahilicious and was bred in Ontario by Marie Broadstock. Racing for the First Line Racing Syndicate, Hesmagicallydelicious has developed into a consistent performer under the guidance of trainer Bob Broadstock. He will break from the outside post seven with Alexis Sanchez aboard as he looks to continue his winning momentum and secure a place in the final.

With ten spots available and every stride counting toward qualification, the Never Better Than 79 Speed Index Trials promise a competitive afternoon of racing. The mix of experienced runners and emerging contenders should deliver plenty of excitement as Ajax Downs kicks off the road to the June 21 championship final.
