VINTON, LA–JUNE 3, 2026–Saturday evening at Delta Downs promises an exciting night of Quarter Horse racing as a nine-race program unfolds under the lights, beginning with a 6:15 p.m. first post. The spotlight of the evening shines on race eight, where the gates move to the backside and a talented field of six runners will tackle the demanding 870-yard distance in the $25,000 Virgil Bond Stakes. Scheduled for approximately 9:10 p.m., the race will test stamina, determination, and class as the competitors navigate the unique around-the-turn challenge.
Leading the field is 8-5 morning-line favorite One Fast Cajun, a seasoned eight-year-old gelding who continues to prove he remains among the region's top distance specialists. He enters the stakes off a hard-fought victory on May 8 in an optional claiming event, overcoming a less-than-ideal start to unleash a powerful late rally and win by a head. The victory added to an already impressive résumé that includes sixteen career wins and earnings of $326,850.
Bred in Louisiana by Terry L. Gabriel, One Fast Cajun is by Heza Fast Dash and out of the Lion Tamer (TB) mare Cajun Rocket (TB). He races for owners Darrin and Norman Ladner and is trained by Shane Ladner, who has carefully managed the veteran campaigner throughout his successful career. Drawing the rail post, One Fast Cajun will break from post one with jockey Ubaldo Luna aboard as they seek another stakes victory and further add to his impressive record.
While One Fast Cajun carries the favorite’s role into the race, the six-horse field brings plenty of talent and experience to the starting gate. Distance races at 870 yards often produce dramatic finishes as positioning, patience, and endurance become just as important as early speed. With every entrant looking to secure a share of the purse and earn valuable black-type credentials, fans can expect a competitive and entertaining battle around the turn.
As the Delta Downs crowd gathers for the feature event, anticipation will continue to build toward the Virgil Bond Stakes, where six accomplished runners will stretch their speed and stamina to the limit in one of the track’s most exciting distance races of the season.
