CYPRESS, CA—JUNE 3, 2026—On a huge day for horse racing nationwide—headlined by the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga—Los Alamitos Race Course offers the perfect nighttime complement this Saturday with a strong eight-race program.
The evening’s centerpiece arrives in race seven, a $13,800 allowance sprint at 350 yards, where every single one of the seven distaff entrants is exiting a stakes race in her previous start.
Adding to the Saturday night excitement is a $59,291 Pick 6 carryover, one of the largest of the season at Los Alamitos. With new money expected to flood the pool, the total money in the Pick 6 is projected to climb toward $230,000 by post time. The Pick 6 sequence will begin in race number three. The average field size for the 8-race card is 7.5 horses per race before scratches.
The competitive feature race is led by a pair of talented distaffers coming off gritty, third-place stakes performances. David Hinkins’ hard-knocking mare VGK Zigfield Follies lines up after a stellar third-place finish in the Grade 2 Miss Princess Handicap, where she chased home reigning AQHA Champion Shaken Goin On. She faces Woodhouse-Singleton Racing’s Walk When I Walk, who returns just a month after a sharp third-place effort of her own in the $25,000 La Pacifica Handicap on May 2.
The rest of the field is loaded with stakes-tested contenders looking to make amends. Exiting the Miss Princess Handicap alongside VGK Zigfield Follies is Budder Off Friends, who finished sixth behind the champion. Straight Tequila also returns from the La Pacifica Handicap gate, looking to improve on her out-of-the-money finish when taking on stablemate Slatedtoshine.
Rounding out the wide-open field is a trio of runners out of the April 11 Virginia Hyland Stakes won by One Sweet Duck: Fairlea Flyin (sixth), Naive (seventh), and Competent (ninth). With all seven speedsters dropping out of stakes company into the allowance ranks, race seven promises a highly competitive race to cap off what promises to be a memorable day of racing.
