OGDEN, UT–APRIL 10, 2024–Lip Chip, an official sponsor for microchipping technology use for identifying American Quarter Horses that began this year, had the pleasure of using its HoofLink Paddock Application to assist Weber Downs last weekend.

Approximately 50 two-year-old Quarter Horses who were entered in trials for the $82,446 Beehive Futurity were identified for their races with the application and Weber Downs officials said their paddock had never run smoother!

"Thank you to everyone who helped," Lip Chip LLC CEO Brad Bolen said.

The Hoof Link System uses a Bluetooth reader to send that unique identifier to a smart phone, tablet or PC, which unlocks secure data linked to each horse as their microchip is scanned. The user can identify each horse within seconds and view current Coggins, owner information, emergency contact numbers, and even recent photos of each horse.

Beginning in 2024, AQHA’s method for identifying racehorses changed and all horses that have not been tattooed must be microchipped before they can be verified to run at the track.
