Escobedo and Olmstead Earn Lip Chip Honors at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK– APRIL 11, 2024–The jockey and trainer tandem of Edwin Escobedo and Jason Olmstead worked well together during the Remington Park racing week of April 4-7, racking up wins and the weekly Lip Chip honors.

The pair were red-hot on Friday night, April 5, scoring four wins together. It was the first time this season a jockey or a trainer had four wins on one racing program at Remington Park.

Escobedo added two more victories on Saturday, April 6 to give him six wins for the week from 14 attempts. He was also third in two other races. He enjoyed a 29% winning clip while finishing in the money (top three) in 43% of his attempts.

Olmstead won the four races on Friday night with Escobedo and with his other mounts also had one second-place effort and three thirds. His starters won 33% of the time from 12 attempts with an in-the-money run of 67%.

Escobedo has moved to a tie for fourth in the jockey standings with 13 wins on the season. He is attempting to become the first jockey since James Flores (2018-2020) to win successive leading rider crowns at Remington Park. Escobedo captured the title in 2023 with 43 wins.

Olmstead is currently in fifth place in the trainer standings with seven triumphs. The Pryor, Okla. resident has been near the top of the conditioner standings for years but seeks his first-ever title at Remington Park.
