National Youth Racing Experience Winners Named

AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—OCTOBER 27, 2021—Five AQHYA members gathered to learn more about the racing industry while they competed to earn scholarships worth a total of $6,000 October 21-23 at the 2021 American Quarter Horse Youth Association National Youth Racing Experience at The Downs at Albuquerque in New Mexico, during the Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships.

The youth selected to attend this year’s AQHYA National Youth Racing Experience were:

  • A.J. Kendrick of Shallowater, Texas
  • Aliya Hawker of Snoqualmie, Washington
  • David Kendrick of Shallowater, Texas
  • Gaston Strickland of Union, Mississippi
  • Mallory Robbins of San Jose, California

Three scholarships were presented to the highest-scoring youth who completed an application, online Racing Skillathon contest and an on-site interview during the Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships. The winners are determined from the cumulative score of the application, skillathon contest, on-site participation and interview.

The AQHYA National Youth Racing Experience introduces youth to the sport of American Quarter Horse racing. Participants got a behind-the-scenes look into the industry and met the people who make races happen every day, including stewards, announcers, owners, trainers, jockeys and their horses. Top AQHYA members were picked through an application process for this all-expenses-paid trip.
