TUCSON, AZ—FEBRUARY 26, 2022—Multiple stakes winner Senor Frogs rolled a 3-½ length win in the second of two trials for the $32,500-added Wayne Brasher Memorial Bonus Challenge at Rillito Park Saturday. Under jockey Luis Martinez the 5-year-old gelding completed the 400 yards in :19.752 seconds, a 110-speed index into a 10-mph crosswind, to establish the fastest qualifying time.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Rillito Park on Saturday, March 19th to vie for the winner's share of the purse.
Trainer Eloy Navarro saddled Senor Frogs to his seventh career win for owner Jose Aguilar Mendoza. Bred in Oregon by Michael and Shannon McKay, from the Mr Eye Opener mare Nellie Soprano, Senor Frogs has earned $105,546. The bay gelding won the Grants Pass' Firecracker Futurity and the Downs Casino Quarter Horse Stakes.
From Above, under jockey Jesus Osuna, was a half-length winner over Windroses101 in the first trial to establish the second fastest time of :19.982 seconds, a 105-speed index into a 10-mph crosswind.
Trainer Ramon B. Bazurto trains the California-bred son of Kiddy Up for owner Pedro Espinoza. Bred by Edward C. Allred, From Above is a three-time winner and has earned $27,742. Out of the In Excess (TB) mare Celestial Being (TB), From Above was making his first start out of Southern California.
