GRANTS PASS, OR–JUNE 15, 2024–Peregrino Af clocks the fastest qualifying time from the first of two trials to the $30,000 added Adequan Grants Pass Derby Challenge on Saturday.
Jockey Cesar Moreno piloted Peregrino Af to his neck victory over Knocking It Off in :19.780 seconds, clocking a 97 speed index. The son of Separatist broke third from the gates but dug in at the final stretch to win by a neck, which paid $12.80 to win on 4/1 odds.
Peregrino Af now has two career wins from eleven starts. The first was in a stakes at Pocatello Downs from his second career start. The six-time stakes finalist has earned $19,619 for his owner/breeder, Arturo Fuentes-Lopez.
Jose Rosales trains the Washington-bred colt by Separatist. He is out of Misterious Lady by Mr Eye Opener.
Runner-up Knocking It Off clocked the second fastest time in :19.825 seconds for a 96 speed index. The daughter of Favorite Cartel broke her maiden in her first out of seven but has yet to win again and has $9,796 in the bank.
Knocking It Off was bred in California by Cade Burns out of the Foose mare Knockin On The Door. Mario Portillo saddled the $29,000 Los Alamitos Mixed Sale graduate for owner Alberto Avila.
