New Moon Stars Set To Rise Again In Miss Princess On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 8, 2021—The top three finishers from the April 11 New Moon Handicap will reunite for the running of the Grade 2, $45,000 Miss Princess Handicap for distaffers on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Ed Allred’s Wambui was impressive in winning the New Moon, beating her rivals by a neck in that race and now returns as the top choice in the Miss Princess. Fayvorite Chick and All Prettied Up, who were second and third, respectively, in the New Moon also return for the Miss Princess.

Wambui has been razor sharp since enjoying a nice layoff between March and December of last year. Since her winter return, the Favorite Cartel mare has won three of her four starts, her only blemish being a second-place finish in the Denim N Diamonds Handicap against Grade 1 winner Kiss Thru Fire.

“She’s come back really well,” trainer Scott Willoughby said. “We turned her out for about eight months and let her rest. We brought her back and has done great. She’s getting better with every trip. She’ll be a great mare for the year. She’s solid all the way across. She gives you everything she’s got every time. If she’s good enough, she’ll get it done.”

Victor Salazar will ride Wambui, as he replaces Oscar Andrade Jr., who is currently at Ruidoso Downs. Victorioso Dinastia, fifth in the New Moon, Registrant and Favorite Horizonte complete the field.
