Prominent Broodmare First Down Energy Euthanized

WEIMER, TX—MAY 14, 2021—Bielau Oaks announced today their Grade 1 producer First Down Energy, dam of Grade 1 winner and producer Terrific Energy, was euthanized Thursday (May 13) due to complications from old age. She was 22.

"She has been a blessing and she will be sorely missed by all who touched her, including all of us here at Bielau Oaks," farm owner Monica Williams said late Thursday. "My father purchased her before his death and she was part of the family," Williams added.

A sister to champion Tiny First Effort and Grade 1 winner Tiny First Down, First Down Energy was entered the 2000 Ruidoso Select Sale as a yearling, She was expected to top the sale, like her two sisters had done previously, but came down with colic while in Ruidoso and was withdrawn.

The daughter of leading sire First Down Dash, from the champion producing Special Effort mare Tinys Effort, was rushed back to Texas where she underwent surgery, having most of her colin removed. Due to the surgery she never raced and entered the broodmare band as an embryo-transfer mare only.

James Pruitt and Michael Pohl purchased First Down Energy from her breeder Henry Brown in 2003. Bielau Oaks purchased her in 2007.

Never carrying a baby, First Down Energy produced 30 foals, 20 to race, 15 ROM and 4 black type.
