Champion Flying Cowboy 123 Moving To Granada Farms

WHEELOCK, TX–MAY 27, 2022–Flying Cowboy 123, a two-time Running Champion and multiple Grade I winner whose first foals are now yearlings, is being relocated to Granada Farms in Texas.

The $965,811 earner stood to full books of mares in his first three years at stud (2020, 2021 and 2022) at Bob Moore Farms in Norman, Oklahoma.

Flying Cowboy 123 is owned by Paragon Farms, LLC, (Tom and Melany Lipar), who purchased the horse as a yearling and ran him with trainers Blane and Trey Wood.

“First, I want to thank Phillip Stewart and his team at Bob Moore Farms for the great job they did with Flying Cowboy by getting three full books of mares in his first three seasons at stud.

No one could have done a better job.

“The reason we are moving Cowboy to Texas is the highly lucrative accredited Texas-Bred program.”

“All of us at Bob Moore Farms appreciate the opportunity that the Lipars gave us to stand this great young horse for the past three seasons,” said Stewart. “We enjoyed having the horse, and with the foals we have seen and the mares that already have been bred to the horse, we have complete confidence that Cowboy will follow in the footsteps of his great sire Apollitical Jess.”

Granada Farms is located near College Station, which is a little more than an hour from the Lipars’ Paragon Farms in Conroe, Texas.

Established in 1984 by the father-son team of James and Jimmy Eller, Granada quickly became one of the most prominent breeding farms in the nation. For the past few years, Granada has been owned by Johnny Trotter and Pete Scarmardo.

Over the years, the stallion roster at Granada has included such major horses as Runaway Winner, Streakin La Jolla and the recently-passed leading sire and Champion Tempting Dash. All of those stallions currently rank among the Top 50 all-time sires of money earners.

Now six years old, Flying Cowboy 123 won the $1,014,657 Texas Classic Futurity G1 and the $334,571 Texas Classic Derby G1, also placing in the $1,550,855 All American Derby G1 and $1,000,000 Rainbow Futurity.

Flying Cowboy 123 is the No. 1 money earner of all colts that foaled in 2016. He was the American Quarter Horse Association’s Champion Two-Year-Old Colt of 2018 and Champion Three-Year-Old Colt of 2019.

A son of the remarkable leading sire Apollitical Jess, Flying Cowboy 123 is a half-brother to the World Champion Cold Cash 123 $1,409,781.

The first yearlings sired by Flying Cowboy 123 will appear in this year’s sales. He is scheduled to arrive at Granada in late  summer.
