HOCKLEY, TX–JUNE 13, 2022–Champion and sire Panther Mountain died in September 2021, due to infirmities of old age.

The brown stallion was bred by Danny Speiss of Hockley, Texas, and was foaled April 14, 1999. He was by Meter Me Gone and out of the Dash For Cash mare Cash This Runner.

He was acquired by Lynn and Steve Denny as a yearling, and then purchased by Guy Weimer of Baker, Montana, before his racing career began.

He kicked off his racing career with a win at the Western Montana Fair on August 7, 2001. He completed his career at the close of 2003, and in between won 12 of 26 starts, with four seconds, three thirds, and earnings of $459,921.

His stakes wins include the QHBC Juvenile Classic Stakes, 2002 Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1), 2003 Central Championship Challenge (G2) and 2003 AQHA Challenge Championships (G1).

He was named the sport’s 2003 champion aged stallion.

As a sire, he got 457 official starters that earned more than $11.2 million, including champion Gone To The Mountain.

He was purchased by Fernando Henrique Frare Bertin in 2011, and was exported to Brazil where he stood successfully for many years.
