OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 2, 2013—The Remington Park 2013 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season closed on Sunday with familiar faces atop the jockey and trainer standings, with a newcomer in front for the owners.

Jockey G.R. Carter and trainer Eddie Willis once again capped Remington Park seasons with awards for leading their respective standings. The newcomer to the seasonal championship podium was owner Wade Helton of Pampa, Texas, who claimed his first title in Oklahoma City.

G.R. Carter – Leading Jockey

Racking up 54 wins from 380 mounts, G.R. Carter finished 12 wins ahead of Jimmy Brooks to land his 16th Remington Park title as leading jockey. It is the 10th year in a row that Carter has won or shared the riding title.

The Oklahoma City resident and native of Pawhuska, Okla. also finished second 65 times and third another 62 times to post a 48% in-the-money rate from his total mounts. Carter also led all riders in overall mount earnings with $1,383,376.

Brooks, from Blanchard, Okla., won 42 races for second in the standings and was also second in mount earnings with $1,207,247. His biggest win of the season came aboard Priceless Feature in the Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Championship on June 1.

Russel Hadley enjoyed his best year at Remington Park with 32 wins to finish third in the standings.

Eddie Willis – Jack Brooks Award Winner

Eddie Willis captured his eighth Remington Park training title, and fourth straight, to win the Jack Brooks Award that goes to the leading conditioner.

A resident of Caney, Okla., Willis saddled an even 50 winners from 228 starters, good for a win rate of 22%. He also led all trainers in earnings with $1,528,184. The top wins for Willis on the year came with Coronado Cartel winning the $720,000 Remington Park Futurity in April and Priceless Feature in the Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Championship.

Trainer Luis Villafranco set a new Remington Park season record for most stakes wins with nine while saddling 31 winners overall. The Wapanucka, Okla. conditioner used the big race victories to post earnings of $1,007,098, joining Willis as the only trainers above a million-dollars. Villafranco’s top runner was Brace For Bernal, the impressive winner of both the $252,000 Remington Park Derby and $285,000 Heritage Place Derby.

Clint Crawford of Sallisaw, Okla. was third in the trainer standings with 26 wins.

The Jack Brooks Award is named in honor of the Blanchard, Okla. native who won the All American Futurity, American Quarter Horse racing’s biggest event, eight times. Brooks also won three training titles at Remington Park.

Wade Helton – Leading Owner

The Pampa, Texas horsemen had his most successful venture to Remington Park, seeing his runners win 12 races to gain his first local owner title. Helton’s top runner this season was Llano Cartel who won four races, including the $50,00 Jack Brooks Stakes on May 26.

Reliance Ranches of Llano, Texas was second in wins with nine but did finish atop the standings for money earned with $462,835 thanks to their Coronado Cartel winning the $720,000 Remington Park Futurity in April.

Live racing at Remington Park is now on hiatus until the beginning of the 25th Anniversary Thoroughbred Season on August 16.
