LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MARCH 6, 2014—Trainer Charles S. Treece is approaching a personal milestone of 1,000 Thoroughbred career wins in North America (US and Canada). Heading into Friday’s program, Treece was at 997 wins. He will have a chance to reach the milestone during this racing weekend at Los Alamitos.
Treece is the all-time leading Thoroughbred trainer at Los Alamitos with nearly 900 wins here. He’s also saddled over 1,000 Quarter Horse winners at Los Alamitos. Treece could pick up Thoroughbred win number 998 with either Solana Soleil or Truco Latino in the evening’s third event. Solana Soleil was the easiest of winners two races ago while Truco Latino has hit the board in 14 of 30 outings.
Treece could also score in the fifth race with speedy Savy Secret. Owned by Stanley Watkins, Savy Secret has won three out of his last six outings. The trainer figures to play a big role in the seventh race as well, with late runnings threats Rodeotime and Poppy Peak.
Harris Farms’ Never Afraid Heads Fifth Race On Sunday
Harris Farms, one of the country’s leading racing stables and one of the Thoroughbred industry's most influential breeding operations, will be represented by Never Afraid once again at Los Alamitos when the homebred filly will compete in the fifth race on Sunday night. Nine races will be contested on Sunday with first post time scheduled for 5 p.m.
Led by John Harris, who served five terms as President of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association and a former member of the California Horse Racing Board, Harris Farms has bred and raced numerous outstanding horses including 1994 Cal-Bred Horse of the Year, Soviet Problem. The filly came within inches of winning the '94 Breeders' Cup Sprint.
Harris Farms has produced numerous Eclipse Award Winners, California champions and divisional leaders including Breeders' Cup winners Tiznow and Thor's Echo to go along Soviet Problem. Harris Farms stands several Thoroughbred stallions.
Trained by Charles Treece, Never Afraid debuted with a second place finish at Los Alamitos on February 22. The filly should benefit from the racing experience and will now start from post number six with leading jockey Ramon Guce in the irons.
The main event for Quarter Horses will be contested as the evening’s fourth race for $16,000 conditioned claimers. The field will be headed by a couple of horses that have competed in stakes races including Dillingham Handicap participant Tiny Flying Corona, Whosleavingwho Handicap third place finisher Cash Him Out and Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap participant Easing Thru Traffic. Engraver, who has won his last two outings, is another contender to watch. The field will be completed by Boogies Bullet and Lidonna Madonna.
