Longtime Arizona Trainer Wayne Brasher Dies
THATCHER, AZ—JUNE 9, 2015—Wayne Brasher, a longtime Quarter Horse trainer from Arizona, died Monday at the Mount Graham Regional Medical Center. He was 86. Services are pending and will be announced at a later date.
Brasher saddled 474 winners from 3,468 starts, with earnings in excess of $1.6 million.
Among his best trainees was Pies Royal Request who tied the American Quarter Horse record of 14 consecutive wins. The Pie In The Sky gelding earned $222,399 in six seasons. He set a 330 yards world record at Prescott Downs on July 9, 1995.
In addition to Pies Royal Request, Braher also saddled stakes winners Drr Six Pack, Prince Of Cash, Motorin, Shakin Ana Dashin, Mega Goose and Dee Gees Jones.
Among his survivors are his wife Loretta, the executive director of the Arizona Quarter Horse Racing Association.
