Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity Nominations Up 53% Following February 15 Payment

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MARCH 2, 2016—Nominations to the 2016 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course continue to be up in a big way after the February 15 sustaining payment maintained an impressive 53% increase when compared to 2015 figures.

A total of 179 two-year-olds remain eligible to compete in the Robert Adair Kindergarten, up from 116 nominees that were eligible to the race at this time last year. As a result, the purse for this year’s Kindergarten is now being projected at $350,000, which would make it the event’s highest since 2010. The 2015 Kindergarten had a $294,500 purse when it was won by eventual AQHA Racing champion 2-year-old filly Walk Thru Crystal.

This year’s Robert Adair Kindergarten benefited from 193 original nominees - the highest number right off the bat since 194 were nominated for the 2008 running. The final purse to this race will also benefit from an increase in added money to $50,000, up from $40,000 in 2015. The next sustaining payment to the Robert Adair Kindergarten at 300 yards is set for March 15. The trials are scheduled for Sunday, May 1, while the final will be held on Sunday, May 15.

The Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity is named in honor of one of the greatest jockeys in Quarter Horse racing history. Adair, who passed away last year, is the co-record holder for most Kindergarten wins with four and at one point held the all-time record for most wins and most stakes wins by a Quarter Horse jockey at Los Alamitos Race Course.

For 2017, the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity will feature an additional $10,000 boost in added money to bring its total added money to $60,000.

Last month, Los Alamitos Race Course announced that the purse for the 2017 Los Alamitos Super Derby is projected to be a stakes record of $1.1 million after the original nominations figures increased by an impressive 44%.
