Q-RACING JOURNAL—MAY 16, 2016—Arapahoe Park will open its 39-day Thoroughbred and American Quarter Horse meet on Friday.

Located in Aurora, Colorado, about 15 miles east of downtown Denver, Arapahoe Park will offer live racing primarily on a Friday-Sunday schedule through August 14. The track has scheduled 14 Quarter Horse stakes, topped by the 400-yard, $200,000-est. Mile High Futurity (G3) for 2-year-olds on closing day.

Other stakes highlights include the 400-yard, $145,000-est. Mile High Derby on August 13; the 350-yard, $150,000-est. Rocky Mountain Futurity on July 10; and the 350-yard, $90,000-est. Rocky Mountain Derby on July 9.

Arapahoe Park will also host one Bank of America Racing Challenge regional final, the 400-yard, $20,000 Merial Arapahoe Park Distaff Challenge on July 9. The winner of this stakes will earn a berth in the October 29, $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos Race Course in California.

The lone exception to Arapahoe's Friday-Sunday schedule will be holiday racing on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) and the Fourth of July (Monday, July 4). During these weeks, there will be no live racing on Friday, May 27, and Friday, July 1. First post time every race day will be 1 p.m. (MDT).
