OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 29, 2024–Toby Keeton won the Jack Brooks Stakes on Saturday, May 25 with one of the most impressive 3-year-old American Quarter Horses on the grounds, RJ Having Fun. It was one of Keeton’s three wins on the week. Jockey Rolando Raudales pocketed four wins over the same period, May 23-26.

With their accolades, the pair also can add Lip Chip Trainer and Jockey of the Week honors to their resumes.

Keeton started only seven horses for the week and made three trips to the winner’s circle. RJ Having Fun won his second stakes in a row at Remington Park in amazing fashion. The 3-year-old gray gelded son of Fun N Fancy, out of the This Snow is Royal mare Snow Clouds, whipped his field in the Jack Brooks Stakes by 2-1/2 lengths at 350 yards. He had previously won the restricted-Grade 1, $169,000 Remington Park Derby by a half-length at 400 yards on April 29. Keeton’s other two winners for the week were San Lorenzo Trump against allowance horses that had not won two races in their lives on May 24, and with Corona in Fire against maidens.

RJ Having Fun has now won 6-of-11 starts and has a bankroll of $362,536 after winning $28,200. Not bad for a $40,000 purchase at the 2022 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale.

Keeton’s winning percentage for the week was 43 percent and when he wasn’t winning, his horses were running second. Six of the seven were either first or second for an 86 percent ratio in the money. Keeton is fourth in the trainers’ standings with 23 wins this meet. He trails only leader Dee Keener (34), Jason Olmstead (27) and Matt Whitekiller (26).

Raudales had four wins from 16 mounts for the week, including a double-bagger he recorded on May 26. His victories came with three of trainer Guillermo Valdivia’s horses, beginning with Get a Lota Tonight against claimers on May 23, followed by CR Ghost Gift against maidens on May 25 and Lil Kool Jessie with claimers on May 26. His other win on the same night as Lil Kool Jessie was in the saddle of Eye Opener Spit with maidens for trainer Fidencio Jiminez. Raudales winning percentage for the week was 25 percent, winning 4-of-16.

The final week of the spring season at Remington Park is Thursday through Saturday, May 30-June 1. The first race is at 6pm on Thursday and Friday with Saturday’s action underway at 5pm. All times are Central.
