Edwin Escobedo wins his fourth race on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Remington Park, aboard Mr Painted Sign (10) in the final event of the night

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 31, 2024–Jockey Edwin Escobedo won four races on Friday night at Remington Park to make the race for the season’s leading jockey a little tighter going to the final night of the meet on Saturday.

Escobedo scored aboard Chief Iron Eagle ($4.20 to win), an Appaloosa, in race one; Mr Charlie Brown ($6.80) in race three; Hologram ($7.20) in race eight and then Mr Painted Sign ($6.80) in the 10th and final to complete his riding quadruple. The four victories give Escobedo 41 wins for the season, now just two behind leader Roman Cruz (43) going to Champions Night on Saturday.

Escobedo will need another big night and some good fortune on Saturday as he has been named to ride five races while Cruz is named to ride eight of the 12 races on the final night of the season.

Painted Turnpike, the all-time leading money earner in Paint racing and all-time leader for wins for American Quarter Horse, Paint or Appaloosa racing at Remington Park, was inducted into the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Remington Park on Friday evening.

Owned and bred by the late Nolan Pevehouse of Webbers Falls, Okla. and trained by Matt Whitekiller throughout his career, Painted Turnpike won 13 races at Remington Park over six seasons here. He finished racing with $465,442 in career earnings, the all-time record for a Paint.

Debbie Schauf took the reins of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association in 1996 and proceeded to build the organization into a powerhouse in the state.

The Champions Night on Saturday, June 1 will complete the 2024 spring season. The first of 12 races begins at 5pm-Central.
