AMARILLO, TX–DECEMBER 23, 2024–The 2024 AQHA Racing Champions selection and awards ceremony, which are typically held in January, will be postponed for an indefinite amount of time.

Typically, the AQHA Champions Selection Committee convenes shortly after the end of the calendar year to vote on the American Quarter Horse Association’s racing champions. The recipients are then announced during a ceremony at Heritage Place in January.

Naming a champion in any category has important ramifications to the breed association, the breeders, owners, and all connections. Most importantly, such achievements bring value to the pedigree. Consequently, the American Quarter Horse Association takes great care to ensure that all of the pertinent data for each division is offered when presenting information to the committee for consideration.

The announcements regarding the 2024 AQHA Racing Champions will be managed differently this year. At this point in time, purses for multiple key stakes races in which contenders have participated have not been released.

Because the association realizes that this is critical information regarding the eligibility and earnings of horses, breeders, owners, and horsemen who are referenced in many categories, it is prudent to postpone the Champions Selection Committee voting until all information is available.

Doing so will afford the Champions Selection Committee a better opportunity to make informed decisions regarding each contender and the earnings that substantiate their eligibility.
